Happy birthday, Flint.

We want to wish Flint a very happy first birthday! Two days late, but whatever. As our first real record, we could not have imagined all that it would mean to us, and the support it would garner from the music community both locally and online.
The good news is, you get the birthday presents. Head over to our Bandcamp page, where we have the full album for free download. The last year has brought so much love to us, we for that we would like to thank YOU. In the meantime, The Utilities are extremely excited to get started on the next one. Thanks for your ears.
Alright,
Joel, Colby, Drake, & Blair

Shake some snow off our shoulders, shake some snow off of the roof.

After a nice Christmas break (hopefully your’s was, too), The Utilities are rapturous for the new year. January and February have some promising shows lined up. We are ready to get out and turn up the amps, suggest hugs, and do that thing we do.
In other excitingness, we are thrilled to see ‘Flint’ on ARGUE JOB‘s handsome ‘best of 2012‘ album list! YES!

For The Weekend.

Livin. Playing live. We are stoked for TWO events happening this weekend here in Lethbridge.
First, we’re engaging in the violent and historical Band Wars. This takes place at Lethbridge Community College in The Barn from 7pm to midnight. We will be playing alongside 9 very talented local bands, and tickets are priced at $10 and $5 (student/presale). Come out to support the bands and have a marvelous time.
Secondly, we are extremely stoked to play again with Calgary’s WINDIGO at the Owl Acoustic Lounge Saturday night. No cover charge. Its going to be FUN. See you there?

For now,
The Utilities

Prairie Sessions.

We met up with some friends last week here in Lethbridge to do a studio performance/recording at the NAAG. This is really cool, because this week CKXU will be airing the songs and interview on its first ever Prairie Sessions. The show will feature half an hour of interview and a half-hour performance, all through the dreaminess of handheld 50mm footage! We played a handful of our favourite songs, and from what we’ve seen so far the videos are really super. You can enjoy a little preview below.

YQL.

Hello everyone. Especially Lethbridge, AB. Why? Because, as of this fall, the whole band calls Lethbridge home. This is very exciting for us.
We had a great time on our British Columbia tour last month. Thanks to the venues that hosted us and the friends who came out to listen to us play. It was a short but fun trip, and we are looking forward our next one. A video blog of sorts in honour of our first venture West is in the compositional stages, so stay tuned for that.
On the homefront, The Utilities are incredibly happy to be getting ready to play U of L Fresh Fest Jamboree on September 8th! To kick off the musical celebraish, CKXU is hosting a live in-studio session with us and a couple other Fresh bands on Friday the 7th between 5-6pm. Cool. Tune in for that, and if you’re around Southern AB come on put to Fresh Fest and see us play alongside a bunch of really amazing bands. Can’t wait.

Until then,
The Utilities
